You are always “ON”. You must hustle and always be available for your clients. Whether it be to reassure them, find them an appointment time or answer questions. As business owners we are born to hustle, we don’t have the luxury of only being available during “business hours” when starting out. Although it’s hard, I am grateful and wouldn’t have it any other way. I feel very empowered and I love that you can always get better.

There will ALWAYS be good and bad times. Nothing will come easy and you will need to work hard for it. Whenever I watched successful business people, I always thought ‘it must’ve been so easy for them to get where they are today.’ But after this business I realized that there will always be problems and the only way to succeed is to solve them and move on!

How to market and build clientele. Especially with this business growing so fast, there are so many artists to choose from, so it is hard to artists that have just started. What’s been working for me is offering referral incentives such as a discounted lash lift per referral.

One of the things I wished I knew before starting my business was how much time and effort you need to put into your business prior to actually opening your doors and taking clients. Building the website, creating and following up on your social presence, ensuring you have all the supplies needed, state and county licensing, practicing daily, researching new techniques, pigments, supplies and all the other things we need to check off of our lists prior to even beginning, is all consuming. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love what I do and my business and I am glad of all of the footwork I did, but it definitely consumed every bit of me.

It is important to take a break! As much as you want to take all clients when they call, or try to fit in those last minute callings, you have to remember you are human. Taking time for yourself is essential. It allows you to clear your head so you are able to focus on doing your best work, give your client exactly what they want and to come up with new ideas. Also, remember to celebrate your accomplishments and enjoy time with your family.

Hi! My sisters and I own Rêve PMU & Esthetics. We wish we would have known what to look for in a training program and what questions to ask before signing up. As microblading is not learned in a extended classroom environment having support after finishing your course is key. It was so scary to start microblading with no one to guide you. Also that you will need to practice 10x more than you imagine to start feeling confident!

I wish I had known how busy I was going to be microblading that I would have had more time for social media and my marketing. It’s been very rewarding and I truly enjoy enhancing people’s brows.

I wish I had known just how important promoting yourself is! Post a lot and be annoying!! People don’t forget things that they see all the time, and if it’s getting annoying, they will remember you more when it’s time to refer someone to you or go to you themselves.

What I wish I would have know when first getting into Microblading…. Where do I start. Ha!
This might sound lame, but I wish I would have started training my clients to book online and have 1 preferred form of contact. With so many forms of communication, social media, email, voicemail, text, messenger etc. it can feel overwhelming to make sure you are checking and responding to clients. So to have a good system in place before getting started is important. Second I was taught this, but I feel it’s important to mention it. A lot of clients have unsymmetrical eyebrows which is part of why microblading can be so amazing, but when doing your pre-draw it really points out how uneven clients brows can be. Take your time during your pre-draw and make sure it is perfect. That is your guide!

When I started I wish I had known how truly life changing microblading can be for some clients. I have been genuinely touched by clients who send me messages about how their new brows have improved their lives.

If I had to pick just ONE as there are so many important things to learn it would be more ingredients and color theory. It is so important to learn the ingredients in the pigments and understand your clients skin type and skin tone in how they are going to heal whether the pigments are bgoing to heal warm or cool and also including their color retention.

The one thing I wish I knew before going into my microblading business would be just how incredible it is to help people in the capacity as a practitioner and a trainer. I spent almost a decade of my life studying in college, law school, and practicing as a business attorney and learning permanent cosmetics as what I thought was my hobby. Well, now I know beauty is BIG business! Having created this wonderful business where we change peoples lives! The business/artistic skills I acquired throughout my lifetime enable me to change students lives! If I had known how beautiful and miraculous this journey would be, I could have began sooner and helped even more people. My lesson was to think far, far, outside of the box as to how I could merge all of my knowledge and experience into a business of my very own and transform not only our clients and students lives, but my own as well. Thank you for this chance to speak from my heart!

There is a lot to be done when you own your business, it is not just microblading eyebrows. We have to manage many different aspects such as social media, client emails, phone calls, ordering etc. I wish I knew how fun this was going to be because I would have jumped in earlier. It has been a fun journey and I am truly enjoying every aspect of it!

I wish I knew how misleading most of the training was for microblading. In order to master your craft you have to find the right course and trainer(s), invest a lot of $$$ and continue to learn different techniques and tips from as many pros as possible and practice practice practice. There are some Amazing trainers in the industry, so do your research beforehand, don’t be afraid to ask for references and make sure you check out their portfolio of work. Try and connect with as many people in the industry as possible as we only get better as a team and with one another. Being a business owner doesn’t have to be lonely if you have friends and colleagues to bounce ideas off of and share tips and tricks and insights.

A mentor who was closer to my location and more available for technical questions …luckily for me I have since developed many open and inspirational relationships in PMU through continued education, social media groups and reaching out directly to the masters in the industry who are willing to make their experience and knowledge available. Raising the bar on quality work helps the profession in general…finding the people who agree have made all the difference ❤️🤓

The one thing I wish I had known before starting my business is that things wouldn’t be easy and good things wouldn’t come without sacrifice. I saw glamorized aspects of other people’s businesses that are in the same industry and thought I would be able to achieve the same in a short amount of time… thousands and thousands of followers, booked up to the point of having scheduling lotteries, features on features, and the list goes on; but the reality is, everyone’s journey is different. Not letting yourself get down on the comparisons people make or the social numbers you aren’t hitting can be difficult, but you have to be willing to celebrate your wins no matter how small they may seem, because they will help guide your success.

One thing I wish I had known before starting my business is how important it is to continue being educated in the microblading field. Outside of my training, I am learning something new everyday whether it is researching about about different tools, products, pigments, or the various methods to map eyebrows. The learning doesn’t stop and I enjoy becoming wiser about microblading for my clients.

One of the things I wished I knew was how much at home practice was required to master the technique of microblading. It’s something that requires consistent at home practice on latex after you’ve attended your course and is a learned skill over countless hours. The feeling of frustration and wanting to throw your latex out the window will occur but fortunately my window was closed and my latex bounced back and hit me in the head. You need time and patience to dedicate to the art so that you can provide the best possible results to your clients.

Before beginning my career as a permanent makeup artist and microblading artist I wish I had known how much I would love my new career of choice. Being that I was one of the first Microblading artists in the Southern California beach cities, known as the South Bay, there were people everywhere anticipating availability of the service in the area. In my first month, I had 18 clients. Now I am approaching 50 clients before even reaching the end of my 2nd month in business. Before opening my studio in Hermosa Beach, I had planned on doing Microblading part time to supplement my income. After realizing how in demand the services are I have found myself spiraling into what is now my passion, not just a career. I LOVE what I do and I love every single of my clients and the experience we exchange during their treatments.

One thing I wish I would have known was how addictive creating beautiful eyebrows is. I’m also a Licensed Esthetician with a brow and lash shop. Microblading gives me the chance to perfect my clients brows if they have hair or not, dead follicles or healthy ones, they can have beautiful brows 24/7, almost instantly. It’s like a dream job!

When I started my career I wish I would have known that the most important thing is to find a good trainer and mentor! There are lots of shady “experts” selling big promises to newbies and teaching garbage courses. This business requires a passion to learn and practice non stop! You must LOVE what you are doing!!!!

As always, thank you so much for reading! What is one thing you wish you’d known before starting your business? Let us know below in the comments.
